Hello, hot Texas heat!

If you’re in our neck of the woods, I’m sure you’ve already switched your thermostat over to cool. Don’t let the sun take a toll on your mood (or your body) this summer, just check out our list of 8 ways to beat the heat this summer:

8. Stay Hydrated!

It’s important make sure that you’re replenishing your body with plenty of water throughout the day. However, make sure that you balance out the water with an electrolyte drink, or food that has nutrients in it!

7. Use sunblockers on windows in your home.

Sunblockers, like curtains or blinds, and help prevent the heat from entering your home through windows. By placing these on windows facing west in the evenings, or windows that receive a fair amount of sunlight, you can reduce up to 20% of your home’s heat.

6. Hit the pool!

Want to take advantage of the warm weather without dripping in sweat? Take the kids out for a day at the pool! This is a simple, inexpensive solution that’s also fun for the whole family. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

5. Cool your sheets in the refrigerator.

We know this one may seem strange, but the body is actually known to lower it’s temperature while falling asleep, and this is harder to do when it’s hot outside. By putting your sheets in a plastic bag and allowing them to chill a few hours before bed, you’ll be on your way to a peaceful night’s rest in no time.

4. Change your air filters regularly.

Changing your air filters every month is a great way to maximize your homes air flow, and will in turn increase the efficiency of your entire system. We offer a filter subscription (see our Services page FMI) to ensure your filters arrive on time, and always put out a reminder on our Facebook page.

3. Change your wardrobe!

When working outside, it’s important to have proper attire to prevent overheating. Cotton material is not the best option, and you want to look for moisture-wicking gear. Additionally, wearing thin, loose, light-colored long sleeves can help block the sun from your skin, and hats or bandanas aren’t a bad choice for protecting your head, face, and neck.

2. Sign up to become a Clawson Comfort Club member.

By signing up for this program, you will beat the heat with your cooling tune-up. Here, our comfort specialist will inspect and clean your unit, and ensure everything is operating at maximum efficiency. In addition to this, you will get a second tune-up when fall comes back around, and receive insider discounts on products and services.

1. Install a programmable thermostat!

Programmable thermostats are a great solution to overworked units. They work by allowing you to schedule what times you want your AC to be running, and what times you don’t. For example, a working couple may want to program their thermostat to cool at 72 degrees during the hours of 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 A.M., at the times they are home. When they’re at work, they may want to have it programmed at 75 degrees. This allows your system to “take a break” when you’re not around, but be ready to cool when you’re home; and don’t worry, you can always adjust the way your thermostat is programmed, or manually override the system at anytime.

That’s it! We hope you put these tips to good use, and be on the look out for more tips to keep you comfortable this summer.

Stay cool!
